History of ATP

ATP, Inc was founded on July 1, 1955. The company was born to service the automatic transmission replacement parts needs of installers. At the time, there were no aftermarket manufacturers providing these parts. Today, ATP is still privately held.

ATP BuildingLocated in a northwestern suburb of Chicago, Illinois, the 92,000 sq. ft. facility allows for quick order turn and a fill rate consistently over 98%. And keep in mind, we don't just sell transmission filters, but a complete line!

Currently, the product line consists of automatic transmission filter kits, repair kits, and other related parts.

Our product offering also includes a complete line of cables for accelerator, clutch, detent, transhift applications, clutch forks for manual transmissions, flywheels and ring gears. In 1995, we began to bring a line of driveline related chemicals to the market. This was followed by interior ventilation filters in 1998. Most recently, we introduced Graywerks® by ATP. Under this brand name umbrella, we offer exhaust manifold kits, harmonic balancers, timing covers and engine and transmission oil pans. But products are just the beginning of the ATP story. It's how we work with you to move products, that's the real story.

Not everyone stocks a complete line of automatic transmission parts. Some stock just bits and pieces of the line. ATP sells a concept.

The Automotive Aftermarket was built on the service provided to the installers. Manufacturers' salesmen called on the installers to inform, educate and sell their products. Today, ATP is one if the few manufacturers still providing this service to the installer.

All cataloging, product management and advertising/merchandising activities are handled internally by our marketing group. Catalogs and packaging are designed to cross-sell related parts to make the installer's job easier.

Extensive advertising messages appear in the popular trade magazines further cementing the ATP Brand preference. Motor, Motor Age, Hot Rod, Car Craft, and in Canada, Jobber News and Service Station & Garage Management carry the ATP message.

On July 1, 1955, Automatic Transmission Parts was incorporated. From its humble 2000 square foot facility in Chicago, Illinois, the company strove to provide aftermarket replacement parts for automatic transmissions. Along the way, the company innovated master repair kits, filter kits with the 3rd Hand Pan Gasket, "Road Maps" (exploded views of transmissions) and the now ubiquitous transmission filter kit wallchart.

A new logo and trade name, ATP Professional Auto Parts was announced in 1999. This signaled the company's focus on a broader range of replacement parts beyond automatic transmission parts.

The introduction of Graywerks by atp in 2001 cemented this focus. The Graywerks line consists of exhaust manifolds, harmonic balancers, timing covers and engine and transmission pans.

In 2009, the company moved its current facility to Elk Grove Village, Illinois.

ATP-Inc. has provided over 50 years of value to its aftermarket customers with quality products and service.
